WMO
WORLD METEOROLOGICAL ORGANIZATION (WMO)
Weather, climate and water know no political boundaries. To promote
international cooperation in these areas, the World Meteorological
Organization (WMO) coordinates the activities of the National
Meteorological and Hydrological Services (NMHSs) of its 188 Members.
Every day, meteorologists and hydrologists are working around the clock,
all year round, to protect and provide vital information. Their early
and reliable warnings of the occurrence of severe weather, air quality
and climate events allow decision-makers, communities and individuals to
be better prepared. They help save life and property, protect resources
and the environment and support socio-economic growth. |

CITY OF PONT DE CLAIX
Pont de Claix owes its name to the XVIth century bridge, a historical monument which crosses the river Drac that flows alongside the town. It is located at a crossroads of routes leading through the Alps to the Mediterranean.
Founded in 1973 under the impetus of Paul Breton, a papermaking industrialist, Pont de Claix is bordered by countryside and woodland to the east and west.
The perfectly straight, 8 km long avenue that starts from the river Isère in Grenoble and ends in Pont de Claix is lined with four rows of trees.
Today, the economic fabric of the town consists of about forty major industries and twenty smaller-scale businesses.
Some of the largest firms are located in the chemical industrial area, which covers one third of the municipal territory, while Becton Dickinson, world leader in the syringe manufacture, also has a major facility in Pont de Claix.
The town boasts numerous sports and leisure facilities including the Flottibulle water park and a covered area for playing boules, as well as the Amphithéâtre auditorium.
Disused since 1960, the old water tower acts as a familiar landmark for the majority of the local inhabitants. A former flour mill, still containing its original machinery made of steel and wood, is now home to the music school and also includes a room where artists, sculptors and photographers hold an annual exhibition of their works. The paper making factory from which the town stemmed now stands empty and derelict. It has been acquired by the municipality and its new use will soon be unveiled. |

GRAND NORD GRAND LARGE
All starts in 1982 by the mean of one hikking expedition in southern Greenland. The formula, which is rustic, gains a sharp success. The demand increases, and snowballs effect : hiking, cross country ski, sea kayak expeditions follow one another in the Far North. Year after year, our pallet of voyages diversifies: to the "expedition style" voyages of the beginning, are added softer activities. Thus appear more classical voyages and cruises. But all have the discovery of the Arctic and Antarctic areas in common.
Today, with a catalogue of more than 300 polar voyages, GRAND NORD acts to be the specialist in the Arctic and Antarctic areas.
But all our voyages always try to preserve this so fragile nature under these latitudes, "leaving behind us only traces of step in snow".
